The History of The Green Mountain Boys

We're a fictitious squadron, named for the band of rebels led by American Revolutionary War hero, Ethan Allen. We share our name with the Air National Guard squadron based in Burlington, Vermont USA that flies F-16's. The squad’s original CO picked the name after seeing one of their jets at an air show.

The official squadron mount is the F4U Corsair. We fly it for ground attack operations, which are usually part of our agenda when we have squad nights. We also prefer to use the CV whenever we can, so proficiency with carrier landings and launches is important. We also do fighter sweeps commonly, but those are usually "fielder's choice". Carrier planes are encouraged, but many of our pilots enjoy different aircraft, so there is considerable flexibility there.

Our command structure is loosely based on the U.S. Marines, but no one is hard-nosed about it. Our primary goal is for everyone to have FUN! During squad operations, there is a need to have a chain-of-command for missions, but again, within reasonable limits! We don't want anyone to think they'll be having some guy barking orders at them all the time!

The squadron has a long history, having been formed with the advent of WarBirds version 2.0, in February 1998. The squad was hurt by the release of WarBirds version 3.0, as many of our squad members lacked the hardware to support the graphical requirements. Due to these issues, the squadron was reconstituted in Aces High, and has been active there ever since
